Bidder Groups

Allow or block groups of bidders to better control who can purchase your inventory.

 

About Groups

Grouping bidders allows you to add or restrict multiple advertisers as a unit when building your ad source. Modifying and updating your bidder groups means you make the changes once and they propagate throughout all your ad sources. Groups can be built from:

  • single bidders
  • existing groups of bidders
  • combinations of single bidders and groups 

There are two ways to create Bidder Groups

  • Proactive creation: To create a bidder group before assigning it to a demand source, see “How to Create a Bidder Group in the Account Settings” below.
  • Reactive creation: To create a bidder group together with the demand source configuration read “How to Create a Bidder Group During Demand Source Configuration” below.

How to Create a Bidder Group from the Account Settings (Proactive)

  1. From the left nav menu, select Bidder Groups under the Account Settings section.
  2. Click the blue plus sign to open the Create Publisher Bidder Group window.
  3. Enter a descriptive Name for the bidder group.
  4. Click the Select Bidders or Bidder Groups box to expand it.
  5. To directly add bidders that are available in your account, click the All Bidders section. Select a bidder from the list. Use the filters and search features to help find bidders on the list. The selected bidders will appear in the box.
  6. To add existing groups to your new group, click the My Groups or Default Groups section and select bidder groups from there. The selected bidder groups will appear in the box.
  7. Click Save. The new bidder group is created and can be assigned to a demand source (see "How to Assign Bidder Groups to a Demand Source" below).

How to Create a Bidder Group During Demand Source Configuration (Reactive)

  1. From the dashboard, select the Marketplace tab, then the View Marketplace Details button.
  2. In the Assignments tab, navigate to a placement (beneath an app or site) and select it. After opening the placement select the desired ad source.

  3. Select the Bidders tab.

  4. To use specific bidders and bidder groups, select Select Specific Bidders.
  5. Select Allow or Block from the drop down depending on whether you want to include or exclude bidders.
    If you select Block, it is possible to select a pre-developed default bidders group. In this case, select the box for Use default bidder block selections.
  6. Click the bidders box to expand it.
  7. To directly add available bidders click All Bidders. You can select the bidder from the list or filter the list by searching. The selected bidders will appear in the box.
  8. Click Create New Bidder Group to create a bidder group that contains the groups and single bidders selected.
  9. Name the new group. We recommend using descriptive group names such as Premium bidders, CPA bidders, Performance buyers, etc.
  10. Click the Replace my selections with this new group button to save the new group. The new bidder group is created and can be assigned to a demand source (see "How to Assign Bidder Groups to a Demand Source" below).

 

How to Modify a Bidder Group

  1. From the menu, select Bidder Groups in the Account Settings section.
  2. For an existing bidder group, select the ... at the right side to open a drop down list and click Edit.
  3. If you want to rename the group, change the text in the Name box.
  4. If you want to remove bidders or bidder groups from the group click the X at the left side of their name in the Select Bidders or Bidder Groups box.
  5. If you want to add bidders or bidder groups click the Select Bidders or Bidder Groups box to expand it. To directly add bidders that are available click the All Bidders section. You can select a bidder from the list or filter the list by searching. The selected bidders will appear in the box.
  6. To add existing groups to your new group click the My Groups or Default Groups section and select bidder groups from there. The selected bidder groups will appear in the box.
  7. Click Save. The bidder group is modified and will propagate down to any ad source associated with that bidder group. It may take up to 20 minutes for the changes to take effect. 

 

How to Assign Bidder Groups to a Demand Source

Bidder groups may only be assigned to ONE by AOL: Mobile sources but there are multiple ways to make the assignment.

  1. From the Marketplace Tab click the Marketplace Details button, select an ad source.
  2. Select the Bidders tab.
  3. To use specific bidder groups, select Select Specific Bidders.
  4. Select Allow or Block at the left side depending whether you want to include or exclude bidder groups. If you select Block, it is possible to work with the default bidders available for use. In this case, select Use default bidder block selections.
  5. Click the bidders box to expand it.
  6. From the My Groups or Default Groups section, search for and select bidder groups.
  7. Click Save. The bidder groups are assigned to the demand source.  Updating or changing a group automatically propagates the information to all ad sources that use that group. It may take up to 20 minutes for changes to take effect.

How to Copy a Group

  1. From the menu, select Bidder Groups in the Account Settings section.
  2. For an existing group, select the action button at the right side and select Copy.
  3. In the new group, change the name according to your needs.
  4. Modify the bidders, bidder groups (for a bidder group) or block groups, categories and advertisers domains (for a block group) according to your needs.
  5. Click Save. The new group is created and can be assigned to a demand source.
